Minty + Feature with Eczema Warrior, Latrese Davis

TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF! BACKGROUND, CAREER, BUSINESS?

Hello! My name is Latrese Davis and I am 2nd grade teacher. You can follow my instagram and tiktok at @teachingwithmiss.davis for more teacher content.

WHEN DID YOU START NOTICING YOU HAD SENSITIVE SKIN/ECZEMA?

I started noticing the “sensitive skin” around age 7. I had rougher skin which was very sensitive and irritable to touch. I would scratch so bad, my skin was raw. For representation I would say my skin looked like elephant skin. My parents took to me to multiple different doctors and all prescribed medications that didn’t work. It took around eight different doctors until we met one named “Dr. Arthur Sumrall”. He was an African American man who specialized in dermatology and treated skin conditions such as eczema. I am now 24 and barely have flare ups.

WHAT HAS HELPED YOU CALM A FLARE-UP? ANY PARTICULAR PRACTICE, MEDICATION, OINTMENT, CREAM?

I use a medicated/natural remedy cream. My skin has always worked better with creams, never ointments or medications.

DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR TRIGGERS ARE?

When I was younger I would say literally anything triggered my skin. For example,

-Outdoors

-Grass

-Certain material of clothing

-Soaps/Lotions

-Carpet

-Weather change

Now that I’m older I would say my only constant trigger is the weather change.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE ANOTHER ECZEMA WARRIOR?

The advice I would give is to just love who you are and live without fear.
